Goodbye to Goodbyes

Tonight, when the big guy had to leave us bound back for his hole (his work apartment) Bella and Gabs followed him out to his car and jumped inside to “inspect” it. I was on the stoop, as always, watching on. I refuse to walk out to the car to say goodbye, it just makes it harder.

Bella, walks back and says,” I just needed to smell the car!”
Me:”Why?”
Bella: “To get me through..”
Me: “What do you mean?”( I seriously wasn’t sure where she was going with this)
Bella: “To get me through without crying!”

And with that, I took a deep breath and so did the big guy, and we both held back our own tears at our little girl’s stiff upper lip mentality and little breaking heart on the inside. What an awful lesson for someone who is barely 5 years old to have to learn, little lone know and deal with. This whole economy and living apart during the week situation is for the birds. But on a positive note, the big guy has an interview for a permanent job. It will eventually require a move if he gets the job but at least it will allow us all be together again like a family and we will finally be able to say goodbye to all of these goodbyes. For now, we pray and hope for the best.

Good luck…I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys…goodbyes suck!

I'm with you on this one. Mine give their daddy tons of kisses and run after the truck when he leaves, (that is until I scream STOP)! As soon as he rounds the corner and is out of sight they come to me teary eyed and the "I miss daddy"s start right away. It's hard, I know. My hubby jokes about my blogging, he says "hurry up and make your first million so I can quit my job"! Ha ha! I'd settle for enough to buy a new purse. Take care and don't let the lonliness get to you.

Crossing my fingers…it must be hard not having Daddy around all week.

  4. The Mama says:

It's hard for our boys to let their daddy go every morning and he's home by 6:00 every day. I can't imagine how tough this must be for all of you. Crossing my fingers for good news soon!

  5. Thanks for the support and positive thoughts! It means a lot!

  8. I hope he gets the job! Saying goodbye all the time sucks! My dad used to be gone like that too. You learn to deal but you miss them like crazy!

That totally just broke my heart reading that. What a very profound statement for a 5 year old. They know so much more than we give them credit for. I hope the interview goes well and you can get back to some normalcy.Sorry I've been such bad bloggy friend this week…if you only knew the week I've had! We'll catch up!

Well it looks to me like sniffing is a mighty good idea! Good for her! My son used to smell my husband's bathrobe when he'd have to go away for work. Not sure what kind of odors he was smelling, but it worked!Found you through FMBT!http://www.absolutelynarcissism.blogspot.com
